Rice Open Water 2008

Swimmers and parents had fun with this meet.  The rain didn’t dampened the fun!  (When has rain ever posed a problem for a swimmer?)  NEHA swimmers participating in a “different” meet venue, OPEN WATER!!

The highlights:  Marilia Baralt (a mom who participates in NEHA’s “Fitness/Masters Swim” at KAC) swimming with her sons Andres & Lucas, and Coach Clay “coaching” from the water as he swam with the team!

NEHA Training

An Introduction to NEHA Swimming:

NEHA is a “goal oriented” program that focuses on the technique of swimming in addition to training each swimmer for competitive or fitness swimming.  Swimmers are encouraged to define their goals so that the coaching staff has a more accurate idea of what to help them focus on for success.   The following information is designed to provide both the parent(s) and swimmer(s) with general guidelines in order to determine where they may be placed.  The final decision for placement rests on the coaching staff after assessing each swimmer’s ability.

Developmental Level – Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards Freestyle and Backstroke without assistance or stopping.  This level is an introduction to the sport of competitive swimming.  Equipment needs: kickboard and fins.

Intermediate Level – Swimmers must be able to swim 50 Freestyle and 50 Backstroke.  The focus in this level is mastering the competitive fundamentals of swimming with the option to swim in USA Swimming sanctioned meets.  Equipment needs: kickboard and fins.

White Level – Swimmers must be able to swim 100 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke and 50 Butterfly.  Swimmers at this level are generally summer league swimmers who may be interested in swimming year round competition.  Equipment needs: kickboard, fins and pull buoy

Black Level – Swimmers must be able to swim 200 Freestyle, 200 Back stroke, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Butterfly and have aptitude with all turns.  Swimmers at this level are primarily middle school to high school swimmers that may have also competed in summer league and/or USA Swimming sanctioned meets.  Equipment needs: kickboard, fins, pull buoy and paddles.

Gold Level – Swimmers in this level are proficient in all strokes and may have aspirations of collegiate and competitive USA swimming.  Swimmers at this level are our top competition and training group.  It consists of high school and some younger age swimmers who rank at TAGS, Sectional and National levels.  Equipment needs: kickboard, fins, pull buoy and paddles.

NEHA Technique & Training (NEHA TNT) – Ideal for swimmers that may want to focus on technique in preparation for competition in summer league, USA Swimming and/or moving into the above NEHA swimming Levels.  Equipment needs: kickboard and fins.

NEHA Masters – Ideal for adult swimmers 18+ who are competitive or fitness swimmers.  Participants must be proficient in freestyle and backstroke.  The coaches will help those interested train for triathlons or US Masters swim meets.  Equipment needs: kickboard, fins, pull buoy and paddles.
