Rice Open Water 2008

Swimmers and parents had fun with this meet.  The rain didn’t dampened the fun!  (When has rain ever posed a problem for a swimmer?)  NEHA swimmers participating in a “different” meet venue, OPEN WATER!!

The highlights:  Marilia Baralt (a mom who participates in NEHA’s “Fitness/Masters Swim” at KAC) swimming with her sons Andres & Lucas, and Coach Clay “coaching” from the water as he swam with the team!

Meet Protocol for Swimmers

  1. Get plenty of rest the night before a meet and eat a carbohydrate loaded meal.

  2. Make sure that all of your team gear is ready for the next morning. Extra caps and goggles, suits, warm-ups, parkas, towels, blankets/sleeping bag, chair and healthy snacks for the meet should be packed the night before.

  3. Eat a balanced breakfast for the right start to your day of competition.

  4. Arrive at the meet 30 minutes before warm-up and set up with the team.

  5. Each swimmer is responsible for circling in for their events. Ask your parents to help you if you aren’t sure of the events you have registered in for each day.

  6. Get ready for warm-up and meet your coach at the designated warm-up time. If you are not going to be at the meet for the team’s assigned warm-up make sure you contact the coach the night before the meet.

  7. Check your heat and lane assignments as they are posted.

  8. Before your race:
    1.  Talk to your coach.
    2.  Give him/her your lane and heat assignment.
    3.  Get race advice/strategy before your race.

  9. After your race, go back and talk to your coach to discuss the race and get your splits.

  10. After talking to your coach, GO LOOSEN DOWN! You have to get that race out of your muscles to perform well in the next one.

  11. Re-hydrate and eat healthy (see pages 34-39)! Stay dry, warm and loose…re-load for the next race.

  12. Rest and stay focused between your events for top performance. Bring something to occupy your time so as not to be a distraction to other swimmers or get injured by horseplay.

  13. Watch your times as they are posted. If a question arises, notify the coach when they are not watching other team swimmers so they can address the officials.

  14. Remember YOU represent NEHA, be respectful of other NEHA swimmers and teams by always being positive and encouraging.

  15. Have fun racing and seeing your hard work at practice pay off in competition!
