Rice Open Water 2008

Swimmers and parents had fun with this meet.  The rain didn’t dampened the fun!  (When has rain ever posed a problem for a swimmer?)  NEHA swimmers participating in a “different” meet venue, OPEN WATER!!

The highlights:  Marilia Baralt (a mom who participates in NEHA’s “Fitness/Masters Swim” at KAC) swimming with her sons Andres & Lucas, and Coach Clay “coaching” from the water as he swam with the team!

Practice Protocol

  1. Swimming is an indoor/outdoor sport.  Be prepared for the existing weather conditions.  NEHA’s Rule of Thumb regarding weather is we swim, conduct dry land drills (bring workout apparel and shoes for rain days) or “chalk talk” with video and/or lecture.  In case of severe weather conditions or last minute changes the NEHA Calling Post will be used or you may call the Hospitality Desk (281-358-7765) for the latest updates on all programming.

  2. Bring drinks to maintain proper hydration every day, especially on hot days.  Have proper clothing on cold days.

  3. Make sure your swimmer has all the appropriate gear needed at each and every practice placed at the end of the lane BEFORE practice begins.

    1.
Suit,  2 caps, 2 goggles, fins, paddles,  pull buoy, equipment bag and a bottle of water to hydrate during practice.

    2.
A sports drink (6-8% carbohydrate, to consume throughout practice or immediately after) and an energy bar (healthy, low in sugar, about 12% protein) to consume with water within the first 30 minutes after practice/competition.

    3.
Shorts and tennis shoes should be worn for every practice and for BASE Training.  Swimmers who do not have proper tennis shoes will not be allowed to participate in any practice or training that involves  agility/speed training involving running, jumping, skipping, etc. where injuries may occur.

  4. During practice time, swimmers are expected to stay in the water and participate in every aspect of the training unless under medical exclusion.  Any swimmer who is planning of leaving early due to school commitments need to notify the coach prior to the start of practice.  If a swimmer gets sick during practice, a parent will be contacted to come and pick up the swimmer.

  5. If there are any items found at the end of practices they will be turned in at the Hospitality Desk to be logged and stored for 30 days.  Any items not picked up are then donated to a local charity or thrown away (depending upon the condition of the item).  So check with the Hospitality Desk to see if your items have been turned in.  We will do our best to get your equipment back to you but as always we cannot be responsible for items left behind after practices.
